グリーンアノールはアメリカ南東部原産の外来種です。小笠原諸島、沖縄島、座間味島に持ち込まれ定着しています。全長は最大で20cm程度になります。オスがやや大型になるようです。喉にデュラップという袋状の期間があり、威嚇する場合などに広げるようです。明るい林縁などを好むようです。樹上や下草の葉上で活動しています。 撮影した個体は那覇市内の住宅街で、道路脇のギンネム、オオバギ、シマグワなどからなる茂みで活動していました。ゲットウの葉上でバッタ類を捕らえたりしていました。 特定外来種、緊急対策外来種に指定されています。

Green anole ( Anolis carolinensis ) is an alien species species originally from the southeastern United States. It has been introduced and established on the Ogasawara Islands, Okinawa Island, and Zamami Island. It grows up to about 20 cm in total length, with males being slightly larger. It has a sac-like organ called a dewlap on its throat, which it extends during displays such as threat behavior. Green anoles prefer bright forest edges and are active on trees and understory vegetation.
This individual was photographed in a residential area of Naha City, where it was active in a roadside thicket composed of Leucaena leucocephala, Macaranga tanarius, and Morus australis. It was observed catching grasshoppers on the leaves of Alpinia zerumbet.
It has been designated as a Specified Invasive Alien Species under Japanese law.
