サツマイナモリは関東南部以南、琉球列島、台湾などに分布するようです。山地森林の林床に生育しています。湿った場所を好むようで、沢沿いなどでよくみかけます。やんばるの森ではもっとも普通に見られる植物の一つです。冬季に長さ1.5cmほどの白い花を咲かせます。

Ophiorrhiza japonica is distributed from southern Kanto southward through the Ryukyu Islands, and also occurs in Taiwan. It grows on the forest floor of montane forests, preferring moist habitats, and is commonly found along streams. In the forests of Yanbaru, it is one of the most common plant species. During winter, it produces white flowers approximately 1.5 cm in length.
