日本国内では沖縄島だけに分布しています。国外では台湾、海南島、マレーなどに分布しています。頭胴長60～80mm、尾の長さ76～90mm程度です。沖縄本島には世界的に分布すハツカネズミ Mus musculus も分布しています。耕作地周辺、荒れ地、林縁などのやぶなどに生息しています。市街地の草地などにも生息しています。

Ryukyu Mouse ( Mus caroli ) is distributed only on Okinawa Island in Japan. Overseas, it is distributed in Taiwan, Hainan Island, Malay, etc. The body length is 6 to 8 cm, and the tail length is 7.5 cm to 9 cm. It inhabits around cultivated land, wasteland, and edge of forests.
