クロベンケイガは、北陸、東北以西、琉球列島、台湾などに分布しています。陸生のカニで、甲幅が3cmほどあり、甲羅の色はやや紫色を帯びた褐色です。平地の河川沿い、海岸付近の湿った場所、マングローブ林周辺などに生息しています。ベンケイガニと同じ場所に生息している事があります。地面に穴を掘ったり、小さな小川の古い石積みの隙間などに潜り込んでいます。身近な場所でみられるカニのひとつです。
Chiromantes dehaani is distributed in west of Hokuriku and Tohoku, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, etc. The width of the shell is about 3 cm. It inhabits flat rivers, moist areas near the coast, and around mangrove forests. It is a crab that can be seen in familiar places.
