オオクイナは全長25cm程度、頭部から胸は赤褐色、腹側に白黒の横縞模様となっています。背面は茶褐色です。国内では宮古諸島と八重山諸島に留鳥として生息しています。海外では南アジアや東南アジアに分布するようです。樹林とその周辺の草地に生息しています。
The Slaty-legged Crake (Rallina eurizonoides) measures about 25cm in length. Its head and breast are reddish-brown, while the underparts display black and white horizontal stripes. The back is brownish. In Japan, it is a resident bird found in the Miyako and Yaeyama Islands. Outside Japan, it is distributed across South and Southeast Asia. It inhabits forests and the surrounding grasslands.
