コチドリは日本産のチドリ類では最小です。全長16cm。九州以北では夏鳥のようですが、沖縄へは冬鳥として渡来し越冬します。目のまわりの黄色いアイリングが特徴です。秋季から春季には水田、耕作地、干潟などで普通に見られます。
The Little Ringed Plover is the smallest of the plovers native to Japan. Its total length is 16cm. It is a summer bird from Kyushu and north, but it migrates to Okinawa as a winter bird and spends the winter there. It is characterized by yellow eye rings around its eyes. It is commonly seen in rice paddies, cultivated fields, and tidal flats from autumn to spring.
